At St Jerome’s Primary School we offer high quality Early Childhood Education for children from the age of three years onwards. Through quality Early Childhood practice, we aim to ensure that the children at St Jerome’s are educated in a welcoming, challenging environment which is safe, secure, happy and caring. We recognise the importance of celebrating all children’s achievements and fostering their self esteem. We see all children as talented – full of wonder and with endless potential.
The programme takes into account each child’s aptitude to learn through different forms of activity, in particular through active involvement and play. We aim to develop a positive attitude to learning, for children to see learning as enjoyable and as something in which they can have a direct influence on. The Early Childhood Programme always makes room for spontaneous learning – a caterpillar on a leaf or puddles after the rain for example.
Play is fundamental to a young child’s learning and is used positively to develop children’s abilities across a wide range of activities. Children at St Jerome’s Early Childhood Centre also become involved in their own learning; discussing what they already know, what they would like to know and what they have learnt during each topic or theme.
